Sometimes when life is fucking hard, just listen to your favorite band again (or at least something that moves your soul the way this album does for me) and you’ll realize, oh yeah, life is amazing.

It’s good that when I haven’t listened to Thrice in a while, and finally I do, I get a huge reality check, feel myself grounded again, and realize time and time again why they will always be my favorite band of all time, no question.

Thanks, guys.

I would like to thank the six police officers, fully staffed fire truck, and the several EMTs(thanks Brian Vanina for writing to me afterwards) that showed up over the weekend…to witness/enjoy what surely must have been a beyond hysterical/bizarre/confusing sight to them.
This song rocks. Its SUCH a different sound from what I’m used to from them, which is what I was hoping for, but I actually LIKE IT…no LOVE IT. This song in particular starts off slow, which allows you to concentrate on the voice and the lyrics and then towards the end breaks into this upbeat lyrical rock style Black Keys that I love.

I have a serious problem with waking up in the morning; I think at this point it is clinically significant because it interferes with my life and causes me subjective distress. At least I got to wake up by wiping the dust off of a forgotten track/band. This reminded me that I should be listening to more Saosin on the day to day; if for no other reason than the fact that their music is super energizing and may help me actually stay awake.

And if you get it, you’ve definitely given it more than that. Underoath took their band to the next level creatively with Disambiguation—harder, darker, yet more soothing, and even taking the pace down at times.
Edit: soundcloud doesn’t seem to be working with this tumblr theme, so I just uploaded the full file. Should work better anyway, but it’ll limit the size of my future mini mixtapes.

Also, I’m going to refrain from listing the songs included in these mixes, so just push the play button and enjoy :)

BLINK-182 - MUTT

“He took the seat off his own bike because the way that it felt. He wants to bone, yes I know, she is ready to blow”

A) I just wrote an entire post and it got deleted

B) These lyrics are so great and hilarious and so well represent the potty mouth humor and derogatory melodies that so well capture this entire album.

C) If it weren’t for this album, I hands down, wouldn’t be the person I am today—-for the reason that if it weren’t for Blink coming into my life at this album’s time, as a frizzy banged, braces wearing dork wearing Dickies shorts that made me look like a flaming lesbian, I wouldn’t listen to the music I do today—music being ingrained in every part of my life, I couldn’t have imagined the trajectory of my music-finding being the same without Enema of the State. With this album came my first passionate infatuation (Mr. Tom Delonge), my first guitar (shitty Washburn then Signature Tom D. Fender Strat), my first set of concerts, and the confidence in knowing to trust the music I liked and go with it regardless of the shit that’s put in your face as an adolescent (sorry Britney and Christina). With this album came the diving into every shred of Blink music EVER recorded, as well as into every band in their general scene (from the old school punk bands like NOFX, Lagwagon, No Use to the Drive Thru Records bands—Midtown, Homegrown, FINCH). Everything changed when Blink came along, shit in my world got turned upside down in a good way. Additionally, as the generation right before me can most identify with Pearl Jam or Soundgarden as the rock soundtracks of their youths, this is definitely the best rock album of my generation (#2 prob a Sublime album or Colour and the Shape by Foo). I go back in time when I hear this yet don’t feel like a moment has passed since it came out; the same enthusiasm comes up when I listen to the tracks, and I rock the fuck out JUST as hard. <3

Thrice is not breaking up. If nothing has broken us up by now, I doubt anything ever could.

However, we will be taking a break from being a full-time band, and the upcoming tour in the Spring will be the last one for the foreseeable future.

welivelikepenguinsinthedesert asked:
Greg, looking back on writing “Sunshine The Warewolf” did you imagine it would ever turn into your most passionate fans’ favourite lyric to scream back “DESTROYERRRRRR!!!!” at you? What context/form has that lyric now taken on in your mind, if any?

Greg’s response:

When writing the song? No. I had no idea. Shortly after we mixed the album though, and were listening back to it, I think we all realized that the “Destroyer” part was a “moment” so to speak…it definitely felt like it had an air about it. When the song was written, the lyrics were originally actually inspired by an article that Brian Montuori, the artist responsible for the “Miss Machine” artwork, had sent me. It was a perverse and disgusting article about a strange and extreme subculture of people who would deliberately “give” and “receive” HIV in order to romantically share an eventually fatal disease(queen sized coffin built for two). The lyrics were fiction, and written from the perspective of the “giver”, who then turned out to have tricked the smitten “receiver” into thinking their love was forever before instead moving on to someone else(there’ll be another just like you…you’re not the only one, etc), sadistically leaving the receiver feeling tricked and scorned…the receiver eventually repeating the cycle as a giver. HIV vampires basically. A metaphor for people passing abuse forward in relationships. Obviously the “Destroyer” moment in a live setting has become so much more than that, and now, to me at least, exists outside of the song as a whole, as a standalone moment. The word has taken on a different energy, a symbol of a feeling of triumph over adversity, of overcoming obstacles, of exerting power and relentless individuality and drive to succeed even in the midst of seemingly overwhelming indifference and disapproval. It’s a sentiment that we as a band relate to, having overcome countless opposition and setbacks as we’ve clawed our way to get to where we are, and continue to do so. When that part exists as a “singalong” at our shows, it feels to me like a coming together of people who all can relate to that feeling. It’s a group expression or rallying cry of “fuck you” to all of the opposition that we can all relate to in life, as individuals trying to succeed, but as a collective expression of power and defiance in that moment. I can’t imagine it ever not being a highlight to me of every single set we play.
