I would like to thank the six police officers, fully staffed fire truck, and the several EMTs(thanks Brian Vanina for writing to me afterwards) that showed up over the weekend…to witness/enjoy what surely must have been a beyond hysterical/bizarre/confusing sight to them. Without going into too…

Thank you Riley for your musical contributions to my life —in conjunction with or apart from Thrice.
This perfectly fits rainy Dallas right now, and may actually help me get started on some of my Thesis before heading to So Cal for xmas (where no working is going to happen). Everyone needs to hear this—kind of sounds like some Album Leaf stuff as well.
Will have Rile’s solo stuff on repeat <3
Second mix, coming right up… enjoy.

This song rocks. Its SUCH a different sound from what I’m used to from them, which is what I was hoping for, but I actually LIKE IT…no LOVE IT. This song in particular starts off slow, which allows you to concentrate on the voice and the lyrics and then towards the end breaks into this upbeat lyrical rock style Black Keys that I love.
SO GOOD!

This album is so badass, if you haven’t given it at least 5 listens, you’re blowing it. And if you get it, you’ve definitely given it more than that. Underoath took their band to the next level creatively with Disambiguation—harder, darker, yet more soothing, and even taking the pace down at times. I get completely immersed in this one every time—definitely best with headphones too. I can also work like a beast to this album. AHHH! Pure amazingness.
This is was one of my favorite transitions that I created in my old CD mixtapes from high school. I always had fun playing with transitions (back then I was sorely limited to only transitioning based on time and not actually mixing levels), which later became handy when I began to create mixes for my dance teams.
Edit: soundcloud doesn’t seem to be working with this tumblr theme, so I just uploaded the full file. Should work better anyway, but it’ll limit the size of my future mini mixtapes.
Also, I’m going to refrain from listing the songs included in these mixes, so just push the play button and enjoy :)

Saddest day in my music life on Monday.
Thrice is not breaking up. If nothing has broken us up by now, I doubt anything ever could.
However, we will be taking a break from being a full-time band, and the upcoming tour in the Spring will be the last one for the foreseeable future.
Playing music for the past 13 years with…
…of me seeing them in the Bay Area.
Slim’s, San Francisco - 02/26/2008
(my own personal video!)
The Boardwalk, Orangevale - 03/28/2010
Thee Parkside, San Francisco - 11/11/2011
(yes, that’s me getting pulled on stage by Jordan)
Unfortunately, there’s no video on YouTube from when Johnna and I saw them at the Oakland Metro last year! But needless to say, these guys are one of the craziest bands I’ve ever witnessed live (only second to The Dillinger Escape Plan), and I just realized that I’ve seen them live more than any other band.

And here’s my (un)random start. This album is a pretty embarrassing acquisition but for this song. I think I bought this album in New Jersey, or right before a trip to New Jersey to visit family during the holidays. This song reminds me of being cold and in high school. I think it’s aged well over the years. Hard to believe it’s ten years now, but music really hasn’t changed that much. But that’s another topic. No clue what happened to this band, but this is the song that should’ve broke them, instead of that “Flavor of the Week” crap. -frank
Thrice stopped by Philadelphia on the Major/Minor Tour with La Dispute, Moving Mountains, and O’Brother not too long ago, and Dustin Kensrue had time to do a fantastic Session with PropertyOfZack. Dustin played a stripped down version of “Disarmed,” one of the many great songs off the bands new release, Major/Minor. Hit play and enjoy!

WHAT is RANDOM START??
(STOLEN/COPIED FROM RILEY of THRICE)
Since I’ve had several questions about it as of late, and since my Tumblr theme either won’t let me add a FAQ page (read: I’m probably too computarded to figure it out), I thought I’d post the basic gist of Random Start here, should you give enough of a damn to read it.
Random Start is an idea I respectfully stole borrowed from my friend Paul Shirley.
Every weekday morning, I wake up and fire up my iTunes Library or iPod (depending whether I’m at home or on tour), hit shuffle, press play, and listen to whatever gets thrown into my ears. In the olden days, it’d be like hiring a blindfolded music gnome to grab an LP or CD out of your collection every morning and throw it on your record or CD player without telling you what was coming.
Then, I briefly comment on the song I’ve been subjected to and post it in the hopes that: a) you might hear a band/song you like, b) we might have similar taste in music, c) I might find a record that I forgot I even owned, or d) you might laugh at the dregs of my music library and/or what I have to say about it.
It’s all about embracing the randomness and commenting on it without shame. And yes, it truly is random, so when it seems like I’m on a stoner metal or electronica binge it’s not me, it’s all my iMac or iPod’s fault. Blame them.

…And it will be interesting to immerse myself into one band during the single month in my life that I will go through grad interviews. I wonder if I will forever link Radiohead and research articles, practice questions, rehearsing, and other tiring but hopefully rewarding activities together. I guess I’ll just ride this wave of music and let it take me to shore somewhere I want to study and build a career off of after the next five years. I guess Radiohead is a good band to accompany me, as their discography of music reveals an immensely successful career in rock music. Radiohead:Music, as Me:clinical psychology. Nerd alert. Anyways, here is a solid song off of their first album, Pablo Honey.

Belated intro post and day#1 of this music experiment. LeCoda is here to tackle the world, kind of. As my co-poster Ms. Keren stated, we’re pretty amazing, great, and modest. Not like the mouse.
So at first I thought it would be weird to make a music blog WITH someone else, especially someone who doesn’t necessarily always agree with my about music or share my exact same taste. And then I thought it would be weird for us both to start/do the same band for this music immersion. But then I realized that that’s what would make it really awesome and dynamic to read. Keren and I are besties. We are alike in some ways, and different in others, but there is always a lot of overlap and compatibility when it comes to us…similar to our tastes in music. Damn, I should just quit this whole guy thing, and date her. Anyways, and that’s why our music commentary will complement itself quite well. Super excited!

This is a blog shared by two pretty amazing, unique and fun girls. Who are also extremely modest.
Its about a music journey, an immersion, an experience.
Every month we will choose an artist, that we like, that might inspire us, that we would want to immerse ourselves in. We will listen to their entire discography and albums in existence and write about it, right here, in this blog.
We thought of a good name for this blog…Music Melody or Music High or Music Therapy or Day Six….none of them worked out. So we turned to a mediator, a pretty awesome individual who lives for music more than 90% of people we know and the mediator saved the day. Thanks Mr. Gatto. LeCoda is here.
AND SO ARE WE!
We announce the first artist we begin with for the month of February: RADIOHEAD.
Love & Music,
Keren & Johnna.
